BRENT'S PLACE

Mission

Brent’s Place helps those living with cancer by providing housing and programs through partnerships in our community.

The Program

Brent’s Place is a unique long-term housing facility in the Rocky Mountain region specifically designed for children whose immune systems are compromised as they are recovering from Bone Marrow Transplantation. Brent’s Place can house these high-risk patients because of its specialized living environment that includes “safe clean” apartments and common areas as well as support activities to meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of caregivers, the patients and their siblings.

Specialized housing and common areas:
  • Hardwood floors, because carpet can hide dust and mildew
  • Flush surfaces, which prevent dust from collecting in hard to clean areas, and can be wiped clean easily
  • Beds that are fitted with plastic mattress covers, and couches with slipcovers that can be washed
  • Clutter free apartments to prevent dust accumulation, with easily changeable air filters that ensure air quality
Support Activities

  • Outings
  • Art therapy
  • Educational projects
  • Caregiver respite activities
Accomplishments

In 2007 Brent’s Place received the Henry McAllister Award for Excellence from the El Pomar Foundation, for most outstanding non-profit in the Special Projects category.

In 2006, it was a Finalist for Colorado Ethics in Business Award for Most Outstanding Non-Profit organization.

In 2005, the National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses recognized Brent’s Place as an Outstanding Hospital Hospitality House of the Year.
